This Mojave Green Rattlesnake was located on Avenue K, close to 110th street. 7-24-05 @ 11:30P.M

All of the above pictures of the Mojave Green Rattlesnakes were taken in Lancaster California above the prison. This snake is considered to be one of the most dangerous rattlesnakes in all of North America. Mojave Green Rattlesnakes have neurotoxic venom designed to shut down its victim’s nervous system. A bite from this animal will usually cause seizures followed by death.

The snakes that we photographed were real quick to rattle and stand their ground. We tried to get a photo of the snakes striking. Unlike some of the west’s other snakes, this one waited until it was sure I was too close before it was willing to strike. Given that I never want to be bitten by a deadly snake, I gave the snake its space. All of the Mojave Green Rattlesnakes that we encountered started rattling as soon as we approached them, and stood their ground rattling until we left.

While out looking for these snakes, we encountered many of them dead on the road, victims to cars.
